Totally new to Datnoids, yesterday my LFS gave me this little fella as a freebie.
Been trying to ID it. I think it may be "Campbelli"?
Could anyone confirm this for me:

Also, what's a good diet for these guys? I am trying to get it onto pellets, but at 3" it may be not a good idea to starve it onto them?

Yes, the dat you got there is indeed a Datnioides campbelli, otherwise known as a NGT. I would wait till it's a bit bigger before I would start the whole starve onto pellet plan. Great freebie you got there.

That NGT looks like it hasn't eaten in many weeks. Stomach is completely sunken in....Prob why the lfs gave it to u.

Fatten up for 1 week, big feeds... whatever it will eat, river shrimp maybe.
Then start converting ... Starve or marinate method.

I have 2 ngt, started at 2 inch. Within 3 days one was eating pellets, within 10 days, the other was also on pellets. I didn't even starve, just mix , marinate and feed.
 
NGT....get this guy to eat (whatever eats) FAST ...( sunken in belly for a juvie = bad news).
I would start with hikari frozen bloodworms .....and after he gets some size get him on pellets (carnivore) ....that's what I did with mine without having to starve the fish.
