Hey Mikie, where are you from? Maybe a local member would be nice enough to meet you at a local fish store to show you some of the fish that can get along, and the proper equipment you'll need. If you are near Cleveland I would totally help you out.

maybe sit down with your parents and look at what is required to run and maintain a Saltwater tank VS running a Freshwater system, coz if you have 0 to very little experience keeping fish, a freshwater setup might be a little more forgiving and easier to start with (cheaper too)...And as

pointed out, there are fresh water fish that have shark like appearances that dont require 300G+ systems...So It really all comes down to size of tank / time you or your parents have to put in to maintaining the tank / and how much you want to spend...
