Thanks. I dont have the dovii anymore. Just sold my last pair. Was keeping dovii for about 3years and time to move on. For now. I will try the danios and silver dollars.
Buenos Aires Tetras or Giant danios. Every once and awhile a couple will dissapear but not to hard to replace. I have had some nice central american tanks with buenos aires tetras doing good for years
yes the silver dollars are a good choice they are the only dithers that have worked for me. i kept mine with my older dovii pair. The male destroyed the tin foils and anything else. the sivler dollars did great until my male dovii hit 11" then i found a huge chunk missing out of one of the silver dollars. but i have also used them with umbees and other cichlids and they did great also maybe some clown loaches but they dont usually get messed with
I got a school of 8 Black Widows (aka Black Skirt Tetras), and they're a dream come true. Smallest is about 3/4, largest about 1.5", and weeks later, all 8 are still alive.
They're in with a convict, dempsey, firemouth, 3 pictus and a severum.
tetras are fine for run of the mill cichlids such as dempseys, convicts, firemouths. but once you step up to trimacs, midas, dovii and similiar fish the tetras will become food and convicts are a cichlid and yes they will serve some purpose as a dither but since they are a cichlid they come with the same mentality; being territorial, and possibly posing a threat and will get singled out and beat down by the larger predatory cichlids. IMO its hard for me to watch any cichlid getting beat up or killed thats why i dont use convicts, hence the reason for using SD's tinfoils, and such cause i dont create and attatchment to them. now a pair of convicts can work well in a large tank with single pair of larger fish and the fry will end up feeding them but its still and unfair matchup lol
the point of dithers are to distract and divert aggression also possibly getting the other fish to become more social and one can achieve that easily with a school of Danios,SD's, tinfoils etc. but not with a school of convicts lol although convicts are cheap and ultimately its up to the individual keeper. heck if you had a breeding pair of something that you cant rid of the fry easily then those growouts can be used also but you will more than likely be stuck with a bunch of fish you dont need that will continue to grow and possibly throw off your plans
