I have an 11 inch male GT and may be getting an 8 inch female. I am thinking about giving them a 75 gallon and seeing if I can get them to breed. How should I set the tank up to increase my chances? What are my chances?

Set it up with a big chunk of driftwood and some rocks with a place the female can take refuge from the male when necessary or keep a divider handy. I use sand for substrate..some people don't use substrate in breeder tanks. Some people just put the fish in and nothing else but the wood is good for the couple to get along better at that size IMO. I hate dividers.

I want to add with an 11" male he is not only fully mature but an old man. He may not even want to breed. You should put a few male and female juve GT's in the 75g and they'll pair up and mate before the old guy will. Btw 11" is on the very large size for a GT. Mind posting a pic...I feel I speak for everyone when I say we'd love to see it.

When trying to breed large (non-bonded) cichlids...use a divider. Either full or partial. No other way around it.

Precisely. My advise would be to section off a portion for the female using the love door method. Once she get's used to the fact that this is her safe haven, remove the door's. Although, 75g is rather small for such a large pair.

If the tank were larger it would be possible to use a group of large target's to asist in forming the bond, but they would have to be removed once the pair spawn's.

Good luck with it.

:iagree: This is the best way to introduce them even if they they DO eventually learn to get along...
