That's about it. I saw them for sale, they look like Silver Dollars and she said they live in brackish water. Do they get big enough to NOT become meal for Gymnothorax tile, the Indian Mud Moray?
best answer I got so farIt sounds like scatophagus argus, spelling may be wrong from memory
I have seen them reach at least 7 inches and very high bodied.
I believe there are two species available the green scat and the silver scat. They are not generally aggressive and have a live and let live nature
Hope that helps a little.
Yep,Travis did mention the African species and oddly enough(to me anyway)he went on to ssay that they have been available in some shops but the green and reds have not been. The green and reds along with the silvers used to be quite common here when there were a few nice shops throughout the city.I don't recall any local shops ever having the African scats. And there is the African Scat, arguably the prettiest, and a totally fw specie

The African scat is not a freshwater species. It is supposed to have the same increasing salinity into full marine as the others.
I like the silvers better but I can easily see how others like the Africans the best.
which of these fit the speckled/peppered/spotted description?Yep,Travis did mention the African species and oddly enough(to me anyway)he went on to ssay that they have been available in some shops but the green and reds have not been. The green and reds along with the silvers used to be quite common here when there were a few nice shops throughout the city.I don't recall any local shops ever having the African scats.
