If the lights in the tank go dim and you hear Sinatra playing, they're ready.
Well I wish Ol' Blue Eyes would start singing! The male seems a bit anxious.

Heh you female is clearing a spot for eggs as we speak, she like the hollow log got in there... after a my male trying to kill her a few times, they are swimming together... Ill try to post some pics...

Sounds like a good sign. Mine did what yours are doing for about a week or so then the female disappeared for a few days under some wood.

Then, a few days later, she came out guarding the fry at around 10:45 am, 15 minutes before my timer cuts the lights off.

The next morning, I awoke to 13 dead fish and my jag pair barely alive (a grammodes pair, 2 pictus, a syno & 10 convicts) and this was in my 265. They killed everyone the night the fry hatched. Id either divide the tank or remove your other females the minute you see eggs.

If you want to induce spawning, do a 50% water change and put the water in about 2-3 degrees cooler. It simulates the temp drop in the water when it rains. I brought mine from 83 to 79 actually...and that seemed to be when they did it.

Good Luck!

Heres some pics of them the day before she disappeared into the wood to lay eggs...so they will possibly look like this when they are closer to spawning.

The male is gonna look female when he's ready - the female is gonna get super bright - there gonna both hang out in the breeding pit and the female will "Flash" the under side of the male quite frequently. Heres my old male breeding with 2 different females - between the 3 they produced 5 batches of fry. Man I really miss them.

Vaipulu, Congrats man! It's funny how my old thread still has some relevance eventhough I don't have Festae anymore. So I take it that she's not in with the Mayan anymore. I hope she does lay eggs for you. I still think her sister ate her last batch in my tank. Take some pictures. It will be nice to see my old girl again.
