same. around us thats what pan ocean calls them. "saber tusk"

they are mostly payara scomb

i ask because All-Happy is selling one to me but he said he had "Both" payara and sabertusk.....so i got kinda confused at that point....can you guys clarify if he has 2 difference fishes

The only problem is those are common names not affiliated to one particular fish or another. Theres a lot of different common names but your best bet would to get a scientific name or a picture and post it on here and we can id it for you. Often times I see Raphiodon Vulpinnis or Hydrolycus Scomberoides sold because they are more common. If you can go there and see the fish and would like some ideas on how to identify payara, theres a few threads and one sticky on here.

i would take pics but he's dow south from where i live which would probably take about 5-8 hours since the hourly traffic down in LA....im going to see if he can send me some pics for your guys ok

also how big to hydrolycus scombs get? What about hydrolycus armatus? And is their a different price range on small ones for these guys? I don't want to get any of the smaller species that is why I created this thread....to see the difference

I see. Well Scombs would be one of the smaller or the Hydrolycus family and as I hear grow to around 12". Scombs arent very hardy and prove to be an effort to keep. Hydrolycus tatauaia are more hardy and grow to arguably 18". The Armatus has potential to grow to 4 feet and is the truest monster of payara. The price range I've been seeing lately is anywere from $300 to $500. Like I said before there are other things that get labeled some of these common names such as raphiodon vulpinnis and even Macrochirichthys.

I just look around before I saw your comment and well i like the size of the Armatus...but as you just stated....they can be very costly...$$$....:( I wouldn't want to stick with anything under 24" as for some reason....

Do you guys know anyone selling a Hydrolycus Armatus? I'll keep looking around for 1 and see which is the one that sells true Armatus for a reasonable price...

Yea they are a decent blow to the wallet. Is there any reason you want one that will get over 24"? Because Tats or red tails are great payara to start off with and you can find them at a good price. I found some for $30 at around 6". Do you need the size for compatibility reasons or do you just want a Monster??
