I like large logs and branches, some of which are 5 to almost 6ft long in some tanks, and they provide places to hide pots, and PVC which I use, but find visually distracting.
Only down side of a large log, is if the fish spawn on it, and they are egg eaters, its impossible to remove for artificial hatching.


And if the tank is shallow enough, I put pots of papyrus behind the logs, papyrus can't be totally submerged. Papyrus also has the added benefit of using nitrate.
