what are some simple plants that can grow in pool filter sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can grow milfoil, "anacharis," bladderwort, hornwort, ambulia and water crowfoot and I only have 1.4 wpg in one tank.

I have 2 WPG and I can grow onion plant in my other one. Hence, you can grow stuff with less than 2 WPG.

...but i'd say you have less than 1 wpg. At that light level, I can grow Chara sp., moss, and java fern.

PS: I have play sand in all my tanks so far. I have potamogetons, elodea, egeria, java fern, willow moss, stringy moss, callitriche, crinum, milfoil, ambulia and dwarf hairgrass.

ok well the tank is 90 gallons so 4 24 watt bulbs will just put me over the 1 watt per gallon mark

thanks for the info

well good news i found i lighting fixture that was hanging for the ceiling in my garage so i set it up to hang over my tank to run in combination with my other lights
it had 2 40 watt bulbs in it
so that gives me 152 watts total

I found a tiny bit of limnophilla sessiliflora made it into my sump's refugium (under 1 wpg) and it is kind of growing. 2 whole whorls of leaves and counting! (the stem started at less than 1 cm) It has been there for a couple weeks but I just noticed it grew now. Does this prove anything?

..hmmm.... With a bit more lighting, you can grow most "easy" plants. Which includes more than just anubias, java fern + moss.
