I want to know what are some small plecos (5-6" long max) that are nice looking and affordable (less than $50). I used to have 2-ea hi fin plecos that are 8" long and they are getting bigger by the month. They produce too much waste so i got rid of them. I want something that is small, nice looking, don't produce that much waste and affordable. Can you experts please help me out. Please provide a picture if you can. Thanks.

All plecos will produce a lot of waste. One of my favorites that stays less that 12" is an L264 L. joselimai. There are many out there, but price is going to be dependent on your area as well. I'll post up a list of smaller ones that are mid range price later, if one of the other guys hasn't.

Very common question hit the search button. All provide a load of waste.

Basically all plecs in the hypancistrus category- more affordable would be L260s (personal favourite) and L66 http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/genus.php?genus_id=18#764

Lots of small panaques eg. L002, L204 http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/genus.php?genus_id=27#126

Lots of peckoltia eg. Peckoltia vittata, L134 http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/genus.php?genus_id=18#225

All ancistrus personally i like Ancistrus dolichopterus. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/genus.php?genus_id=4#221

Some leporacanthicus sp, i personally like L172a or golden heterodon. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/genus.php?genus_id=64#1797

To be honest there are 101 different species of plecos that arent to expensive that fit into this category. Have a look at whats available or find one you like and then see if its affordable to you or reaches the size you are looking for. Use the above as a starting point, and there are loads of other in different genus too.
