I've always used a bunch of zebra danios. They make great dithers afterwards too. Culture pads really help as well. I cycle most of my tanks in a few hours.

Ive always just used acouple dozen feeders to jumpstart the Cycle. then the survivors offer a safer live food than feeders fresh from the LFS.

Sure it is. Adding culture pads to a tank provides the necessary bacteria to the tank, rather than wait weeks for them to occur naturally. The reproduce rapidly and quickly culture every surface area inside the tank and filter. I've done this with my discus tank and many 10g temp tanks. Works like a charm everytime.
