what are tank mates for snakeheads?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
fishhead snake????

seriously though, that fish will likely be solo for good.

If anything, I'd say some big robust CA cichlids, or a LRG. good size Clown Knife or something??... how long will it last, who knows?? :uhoh: Redlines are pretty much all solo keepers at the end?... but you never know?? GL!

If all does fail tho, you can always just add a nice good piece of driftwood to the tank! :)

sell that dam snakehead mahng. then u can just put w/e fish u want in there.
get some ATFs!! and arowanas. much better than having just a SH.

i would disagree, but then i LOVE my snakeheads.

I disagree with every post so far. All fish are good eating for snakeheads and therefore make GREAT tank mates! Before they were illegal, I had one and it made good work of my oscars! I was able to see it happen to one of them first hand.

WARNING: gory details to follow, read at your own risk!

My snake head grabbed the oscar's face and rammed the poor fish into the glass and the gravel and the hood until the poor fish was torn in half. I stood there shocked while water and blood splashed all over my floor. My girlfriend started screaming and ran out of the house (we got married). After that point, we were all scared of the snakehead.

But like I said, get anyfish you'd like for a tank mate and keep the camera rolling if your are into that type of thing.

My buddy who had a 12" redline came home with a bag of large goldfish. When the fish saw the food, it went beserk inside the tank, splashing water all over the place. I don't think any fish could go any worse or wacko than that. I would love to have a solo, better yet "pairs" (school) of big redlines. Doesn't matter if that is the only fish I could keep, but it has to be more than three. Redlines are not skittish, and definitely monstrous in attitude :)

The only fish that survived my Red was my Alligator Gar, but he still bit a lump of his tail but then again I really think Red hate every thing. And at the end of the day the only place for an Alligator Gar is a pond. They are a top fish! There is a story going round where an owner had a cat that used to sit on the lid of his owners snakehead tank because of the warmth from the lights. One day while servicing the tank the owner walked out to hear a huge commotion. The alleged story goes the cat jumped up thinking there was a lid the snakehead took his chance wiped the cat out. How true. Well I have heard this story for 2 different people in the same area so could be. It’s a top story if it is. :woot:
