what are tank mates for snakeheads?

I disagree with every post so far. All fish are good eating for snakeheads and therefore make GREAT tank mates! Before they were illegal, I had one and it made good work of my oscars! I was able to see it happen to one of them first hand.

My snake head grabbed the oscar's face and rammed the poor fish into the glass and the gravel and the hood until the poor fish was torn in half. I stood there shocked while water and blood splashed all over my floor. My girlfriend started screaming and ran out of the house (we got married). After that point, we were all scared of the snakehead.

But like I said, get anyfish you'd like for a tank mate and keep the camera rolling if your are into that type of thing.

then they're really not tank mates then, more like cannon fodder.

The only fish that survived my Red was my Alligator Gar, but he still bit a lump of his tail but then again I really think Red hate every thing. And at the end of the day the only place for an Alligator Gar is a pond. They are a top fish! There is a story going round where an owner had a cat that used to sit on the lid of his owners snakehead tank because of the warmth from the lights. One day while servicing the tank the owner walked out to hear a huge commotion. The alleged story goes the cat jumped up thinking there was a lid the snakehead took his chance wiped the cat out. How true. Well I have heard this story for 2 different people in the same area so could be. It’s a top story if it is.

thats an insane instory. I wonder how if its true.. It would be crazy if it was true, cruel but crazy. And i wouldn't put it past a full grown red to do that

try a parachromis managuensis! that fish is perfect. strong and big. my snakeheads dont mess with that. i got 4 channa micropeltes!

how long have you had it for? I believe they're also aggressive. I think rumblesushi also had a albino striata which was super aggressive even when he got him at 2.5". Post a picture of your setup...

The only SAFE mate for a red sh is another red, and it HAS to be same size!

hell i have a 2 fool white skin snake head and it would even attact and try to kill humans if it could its diet as of a week ago consists souly of white live lab mice so ya even people not good idea
ps the lil pain in my ass took out a chilly red that was a foot bigger then him so arows bad idea also

even if the fish is as big or bigger, snakeheds will bite and take out chunks of fish.
i currently have a common pleco, similar size of my red, bout 9inches.

i saw this one tank with a leopoldi and like a silver arowana and like 3 or 4 spotted gars and like a catfish i dont knwo what kind but i was nice though i forgot whose it was but the snakehead seamed like it could of lived with the fish you knwo but anwyas yeah now hes like 11 inches and my gar is only like 9 or 10
so its getting alittle too small for the red but i was thinking of giving my red to a local lfs or maybe giving it to a friend i dont know somehting liek that but i need to get rid of it because i like my gar and i can have so many more tank mates witha gar better than a redline but ime not sure yet
