what are tank mates for snakeheads?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sqratch - exactly right. My albino striata is the most aggresive fish I've owned, more aggressive than 2 reds I've owned. It's a freaked. Ripped a dovii's face off.

Here is the angry little guy...

mine (c striata) flares his gills at me whenever I pass by the tank .... kills anything, even the reds I had with it...same size.

Me too, it's hilarious. He flares up atme or my g/f every time we approach the tank, he also wags his tail like a dog.

And yes he's meaner than reds I have had.

Reds are incredibly hungry and can be vicious and devastating, but I don't think they're as outright "mean" as a striata.

Is yours albino? Do you have a pic? How big is it?

Nice Vince. I got mine at 2.5 inches. It grew VERY fast to 8 inches, and has since grown very slowly to 10 inches. It's growth rate slowed dramatically.

What tankmates have you tried with it?

I tried with baramundis (lates calcarifer), and datnoides. I watched him a couple of days, and he started bullying everyone, so rght now he is all by his lonesome. I have a couple more that I think paired up, they are not killing each other anc pretty much likes to be together side by side, but when I tried to add the other one, they beat him up...

oh really? Your aggressive one got beaten up by 2 others?

Did the lates try and fight back?

Mine doesn't even bully, it just savages things. It killed a spotted gar, a hujeta, lots of dither fish, almost killed a 1 foot lapradei, and bit the face off a convict and a dovii, and almost killed a jag.

Do you have any idea why mine has slowed down growth wise? It's obviously well looked after, regular water changes, good filtration, lots of food.

I'm thinking these albino channas doing the rounds might not even be a striata, but another species or a hybrid.

I've never heard of an albino striata over 1 foot, which is strange for a fish that's meant to be almost as big as a red.

What do you think?

my fellow albino striata owners!!!!

well mine is over a foot now. its about 14 inches. i'll try to take a good pic of him but his ass is hella scared of me for some reason.

its really weird because mine is not that aggressive. well it did rip a pacu's face in half.(pacu survived)

he could be vicious because everytime i put a different fish in the tank, all the fish were jammed up in the corner and would not move or eat because the slightest movement made my striata to sprint?(SWIM FAST) over there and bully them suckers.
