I have to agree with variety being the best way to feed the fish. I have a jack that is eleven years old and some change now. He gets hikari pellets, invertebrates from the garden/compost (earthworms, crickets, beetles, etc), feeder fish on occasion, small cray fish, and the occasional legume. In the winter when it is harder to breed feeder fish or acquire quality invertebrates and he eats more pellets he seems to lose a bit of color. Do you guys prefer to buy or breed your own feeder fish? What species do you use?
