I'm not sure what forum this belongs in, but I'm mostly worried about the cichlids getting along with themselves and the other fish. Disclaimer: I realize every fish has its own personality and may be aggressive for its species or vice-versa.

Right now, I have a 125 (72x18x22) w/ the fish in the sig. All of them are active and not skittish. The BGK is pretty territorial and won't let anything go near its spot (doesn't bite, just pushes them out). I am wanting to add some CA/SA cichlids. I am growing some up right now in a 20g, but I have a 55g I can set up again if need be (would be temporary). The 125 will also become available and I'm not afraid to sell fish or trade them in at the LFS. I will be upgrading to an 8x3x3 or 10x4x3 as soon as I can, but may get a temporary 180 or 240 if it doesn't work out as soon as I hope. What do you think MAY be a good combination of cichlids choosing from the list to follow? The fish I am considering are because I really like them and/or they are easy to obtain and inexpensive.

Jaguar - I am growing up 3 right now hoping to get 1 or 2 of the same sex that will play well with others
Oscar - I have a tiger that I def. want in there and I don't think it should be a problem, but I also have a 4" red that I was going to get rid of that could also go in if it would spread aggression
Red Terror - IDK what sex, my LFS has a small one (any way to tell at 2"?)
Trimac - same story as Red Terror (?), but I can get more
Any other suggestions? I'm afraid GT's and JD's wouldn't get large enough to not get eaten by an adult Silver Aro.

Or am I totally foolish for even thinking about trying this? Please give your opinion, by all means, but don't be mean, lol.

Thanks in advance
-Paul

I really cant help you with any advice, but good luck sounds like it will be nice if it works. :headbang2

RT and Trimac i would say NO for sure i think they would beat the crap out of your aro.

out of the fish you listed i would say the GT (which you had as a no) or the Oscar would be the best choice.

if the cichlids are going in the 8 or 10 foot tank then you could try all of those and more in a 125 or 180 they would be fine for a while till around 7''-8'' then fight may start to break out raise the aro with the cichlid so they get use to it they will most likely fight each other then your aro but watch them

JDs and GTS grow slow so if you got a big cichlid and a small aro then it could work both fish if males can get 12'' so they get plenty big enough not to be eaten but its more a matter of time

HAY MAN if your looking to get rid of a tank i may be interested in a 125 or 180 if you can't keep it i'll have alot more money and space in a few months so if you need to sell a tank send me a PM no room right now but i am looking for a tank that size soon

I agree - oscar and jags will probably be okay...trimac or festae probably NOT. :)

alright, thanks for the advise.

killerfish, i am not ready to sell the 125 yet, but I may be if i can find a 180, 210 or 240. I found a nice-sized 250 (72x27x30) on craigslist that someone wanted to trade cuz they couldnt get it in their basement, lol, but they got a few trade offers for tanks bigger than mine before I replied.

does anyone have a pic of a 1" trimac? I cannot find any anywhere. I went to Petsmart and they had the trimacs for $2 a piece on sale, but I didnt see any in the tank they were supposed to be in. I thought there might have been some in the tank next to it w/ cons, but I wasnt sure. All of them were mixed around (cons, jags, FM's, etc.) lol.

Do you think a trimac and a red terror could possibly coexist in a 240 long?

The best choice would be an oscar, but the second best a female jaguar, and 3rd a male jaguar.

But also look into the Bay Snooks (Petenia Splendida), they are basketmouthed large peaceful cichlids and they will probably be suited quite well with an arowana.

I guess if you include the snook that would be my first choice.:)

I don't know if you will like them or not but they seem really peaceful and highly piscivorous at the same time (so that means if you wanted to, for fun or a treat, quarantine some feedes and let them have at it, the snook would hit them like peacock bass or jags).

if it was at petsmart i was not a trimac it was probbaly a flower horn
yeah, i read the other thread. stupid poopsmart. i actually got 2 since they were $2, but ill probably end up selling them along w/ the "red terror" and midas/rd i got.

i know most oscars are pretty wussy, lol.

i dont care for the red bay snooks for some reason. i cant see paying $30 at petsmart for any fish anyway, lol. Bderick has some w/ his aro.

someone said about a green terror. wouldnt they be too small to be w/ a large aro and the other fish i have?

one more question. while i was at petsmart, i was looking in the midas tank and there were a few other fish that got in there, but they all looked like little gold saums except for one. it looked a lot like the midas, but had bars. idk if it was a barred midas or a leftover flowerhorn that they missed (there werent any trimac signs up anymore). i'm sorry i didnt take pics, but what do you think?
