What are the cichlids meaner than these ones?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You guys also have to remember these fish are usually aggressive to fish of their own kind. Mbuna id say are on a similar level even though they cant exist with the CA cichlids. Have you ever had two adult johanni? Its a totally different scale. On the CA side, id like to add nicaraguense they can definitely hang with the big dogs and theyre nasty. Vieja zonatus is one of the most aggressive CA as well.

Really it can be any CA or SA cichlid. Just depends on personality. The ones named and listed are topically known for being mean bastards. You can't really single out any others for being aggressive cause given the right conditions they will battle to the death.

lol Who wouldn't deny when someone say malawi and some similar fish would be more aggressive than meanest cichlids like trimac, dovii, umbee, beani? :D Yea I've have some of them at the moment like green terror, blue acara, oscar. I have convicts fry at the moment too.
Blue acara is a very peaceful cichlid comparing to others. So I can imagine what you know about them. :D You have to check my list again I think. midas and grammodes would be fine.(I've added reddevil and dovii instead of them as they do better than midas and grammodes)

If you raise a bunch of Mbunas and your list of meanest CA/SA cichlids from the same size, the Mbunas would skin the new world fish alive before they can get any size on them. They are fast, agile and aggressive...ca cichlids have no chance.

I hope the mods shut this down soon. To the OP, you are coming off as rude. But so this comment isn't only to rag on you, one species of cichlid not mentioned yet is Hemichromis fasciatus. From what I've read, they can hold their own with the central American monsters afore mentioned.

As a cichild keeper, I find these threads immature and rather silly. If a search was done on this forum for a list of the most aggressive cichlids I'm sure several would come up. Keeping these monsters with eachother usually ends with a sad story of losing a fish because of keeper ignorance. Just don't do it. As a fish keeper, we have a responsibility for the well being of our pets. Just my thoughts.

I'm sorry if someone get upset because of me. But in my defense I didn't use any harsh words except in replying to a harsh reply. I don't know what's silly about this thread. This thread is made to find out what I couldn't find out of my searches, and my findings are the ones I've listed at first. That's implied in the thread and all over the replies. So I don't care if you find this is silly or not. It's your opinion. Information I collect through my threads is important to me.

Post your updated list for all to see. Break it down into size categories so we don't get the dovii vs mbuna argument with size issues. I'm not trying to be mean either, I just hate seeing all the name calling and fighting on forums designed to helpful and informative.

that arguement could go either way . a while back when i first started keeping fish i had small mbunas with a similar sized convict pair and the convict killed 4 mbunas that were .5-1" bigger.
