What are the most Intelligent CA and SA Cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a earth eater and a parrot fish they both liked eating there own crap.. I watched closely, like most fish they taste the poo and then spit it out, but these two cleaned the tank I thought it was sick when I first spot them eating there crap, thought it helped me by cleaning the tank lol No other fish I've owned done that. Look at the piranha measure it with a dovii which one is smarter? dovii, dovii's are loners in the wild and are aggressive, dovii's take care of them self's. while piranhas have to be in packs other wise they will get eaten or killed.

Is the first an illustration of fish intelligence from your perspective?

I'd say oscars, because I use hand gestures to communicate with my oscars

:screwy:

Yes and I'm sure they completely understand your hand gestures. Do they use fin gestures to communicate back? I'm curious....what do they say? Would you mind providing some video for us so we can get a better understanding of how it works? Thanks.

My fish and I use telepathy to communitcate with one another.

Balton, you're a skeptic! I can't believe you. Haven't you seen the Planet of the Apes? That's a true story! You'll see. You shouldn't doubt the intelligence of our animal friends. I have to go now. I'm late to a calculus class that my Festae are teaching.;)

I'm sorry to be sarcastic, I couldn't help myself. But c'mon...he taught his fish to communitcate with hand gestures?

took that class.....it was crap. The Loisellei teach a much better one and any cichlid id chart will prove it........;)

seriously, how are we supposed to determine the intelligence of a fish? Being personable, interactive or begging for food isnt really what defines intelligence in my book. My most personable fish is my Midas and my freddy is quite the socialite as well, but they all recognize the food container and all beg and eat from my hand

I find it interesting that certain fish appreciate toys though. Not sure if thats an indicator of intelligence either, but it clearly shows fish can get bored

My lil snooks already know what the container of pellets is. If I put it on top of the tank lid, they all gather around and stare at it as if it will magically drop some food out to them lol.

Then I give them a couple of hand gestures to let them know they have to wait for me. And they give me a hand gusture back....the middle finger.

I often have indepth conversations with my fish. We discuss the topic of life a lot.
