What are the Pros and Cons on having a Wet/Dry Sump?

My overflows are not the source of noise. It's the flowing and cascading of the water down through the sump at high flow rates you can definitely hear it more than a canister..

Is your stand not enclosed? Even if it was I know what you mean because I can hear that water coming through to the sump if my stand doors are open. I made a silencer with a sterilite box and plumbed the drain hose from my overflow so that it drains into the box then over the bio-media. That helped quiet things down a bit.

Another con with wet and dry systems is their fast evaporation rate. So you have to make up water frequently, and can be a concern if you will be away for an extended period.
