I see it's much cheaper than the sand I bought at Petco at Tractor Supply. I want to do a planted tank if that matters. I read another post saying there are cons to usinig it but it does not mention what they are. Let me know what the downside to using it is.

I have it in two of my tanks, a 55g and a 65g. I love it. Cheap, attractive, cleans easily. Only con is now I want to switch all my tanks to black diamond! There are several people who successfully use BDBS as planted tank substrate, just be aware of your plants' needs and provide that. It is inert, so root feeders need tabs, etc.

And for the record, I use 20/40 (medium) grit from tractor supply. It is not coarse as some people will say. I've used it with 3 raphael cats, pictus cats, tiger shovelnose, and Cory's. None of my bottom feeders have ever had any damage done by the blasting sand.

I have a planted tank with bichirs. Tank is a 70/30 mix blasting sand and PFS I have not come across any downside
