What are these? (I'm new to big fish)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
None of these would get to over 6 inches.... Most of what you have are Peacocks - Aulonocaras... the last one is an OB or marbled form, the one in the second pic is a basic one... I'm not sure about the ones in the first and fourth pic.

pH: 8 - 8.8, Hard water. Must be clean too.

Feed them lots of veggie flakes, algae wafers, etc..

Rocky setup is a must...

Tank size : bigger the better for the reason that these are aggressiv towards each other and bigger tank allows for more fish hence, distributing aggression.

Oops I forgot the Name of them...They are African Cichlids Like Red Devil said and they are from lake Malawi!

Yo, people. Stop guessing!!!

The first one and third one are Ahlis, the second one is a Borleyi, and the last one is a Blotched Ahli. All of them are haps and get around 8 inches. None of them can live in a 30 gallon and I suggest a 55 or bigger.

as I have said a few time in this post and the one that was made just like it... I will give you the ahli, but the 2nd one is not convincing me that it is a borleyi... I have had a few of these (male like it would have to be) and it does not seem right to me...

I was not really sure about that one either. But at least we are close and not saying they are all peacocks or zebras that get bigger than 14 inches.:)

This is the picture of the fish he posted and this is a pic of a male Borleyi..they look like a match to me..and i am oping one of my babies grows up to look like this:D

yah none of those are peacocks def. not the right shape... I would agree they are all haps. As for the size... they dont get that big the max size you would be looking at is 5-7ish inch range. They can be agressive so make sure there is alot of rock work. I would say a 55 minimum for these guys depending on then number you have. Honestly though the bigger the tank-the better (esp if you want/have alot).

1) Sciaenochromis fryeri - Electric Blue Ahli
2) Copadichromis borleyi Kadango - Red Fin Borleyi
3) Sci. fryeri as well
4) Aulonocara sp. "O.B. Peacock"

And FWIW; the Ahli's and Borleyi's are Hap types, whereas all Aulonocara are Peacock variants. The big difference between Haps and Peacocks is their potential size. Peacocks attain approximately 2/3 the full size of your average Hap at regular adult size. In aquariums, all of these fish can potentially gain well beyond their full adult size they'd achieve in the wild, because there is no food chain in your tank, and they live longer fuller lives. Typically, after their natural mature size is reached, they continue growing, but become lackluster in color, and can also hunch-over and look geriatric.

Hope that helps :) I can say all those with certainty, as I've got all of them sitting around here all day - lol.
