well i apologize, i forgot to get back on here with an update. and bad news.. my big guy didnt make it. after speaking with a few people i know in my local fish club, they said it sounds like even though he was sick it didnt really affect him, and i should have left well enough alone. he died within a day of being medicated and they think the meds shocked his system killing him... it is a bummer to say the least, but thanks again for everyones help and advice

Sorry to hear that, mate. Have you found any sources stating that these fish are sensitive to chemicals (like arowanas, pacus, loaches, etc. are known to be)?
Have you started gradually or went with a full dose right away and what med was that and how was it administered? All this info can help many keepers in posterity.
