What are these?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
kinda looks like a nandus i don't think its a nile perch or barramundi

if its a nandus it may get out grow by the datnoids

Does anyone else have these would love to see some bigger ones and get more info on them as everything i read isnt that detailed as they are kept much, well by non MFK members anyway.

Just managed this pic, Loving these crazy fish. Yes i have an unsolved algae problem at the moment.

to clean up algae I have read on here and other places that you can cover your tank with a blanket or something for a few days with no lights on and it will die it. No light, no algae. Makes sense, never had to try it though myself...

Very cool looking fish though, they look like some aggressive fellas.

Yeah nandus nandus and you got them at big al's can tell by the bag but which one? because I want one, but havent seen them in my area...

Oh and for algae, when ever I add salt to my tank to heal a fish all my algae dies too. Might be worth a try...

tried salt once and it didnt die but my java fern did. As for big als yes it was but i work there and they were from another guy who i work with. he had them on live but now they take krill from a stick and they eat like pigs actually have to wait until they refuse food

I would love to see other people pics and hear of their experience with these

That's a great pic!!

They are definitely one of harder fish to find, from what I've noticed. It's a shame because they are such great ambush predators and many people will never get to experience them.

they are great, they learn quick in two days they dont even need to be stick fed they will compete for krill with my baby dats, though i still feed them that way in order to gauge how much each one eats.

If there wasnt so much algae i would have entered that pick for next months potm. I have cut the lighting in half but i like the bright tank, looks like a weekend of stripping the tank

I would try throwing a blanket over it for a few days, I would bet that works and it is a hell of a lot easier than stripping the tank down and cleaning the hell out of it. If it works sweet, if it doesn't the only time wasted was putting on and taking off the blanket.

I had a little bit of algae growing on the back wall of my tank, I think it got to much sun one day, so I cut the light in half and kept all the blinds closed, with a little bit of scrubbing seemed to work good...
