I started growing out another paratheraps bifasciatus again after losing my old male 2-3 yrs ago. I use to feed that guy Hikari Cichlid Excel (back then I was under the impression that viejas/paratheraps were almost strictly vegetarian, I've learned otherwise now) as a staple supplemented with chopped veggies and Hikari cichlid bio-gold. This time I'm a little bit lazier about it so I' m feeding him strictly NLS everyday (seems to be working fine) with Hikari Cichlid Excel 2-3x a week. Semi-heavy feedings. What about you guys?

I feed my p. syn algae wafers, peas, lettiuce and hakari cichlid gold pellets. He or she is growing really fast.

I'm raising some Hartwegis on massivore, hikari bio gold, algae wafers and wardley shrimp pellets. I have to crush everything into small enough pieces for them as they are only about half an inch and growing. Their favorite actually seems to be the shrimp pellets. I'm happy about that since I was really close to throwing them in the garbage because I had stopped feeding them to my other fish. None of my adult fish like them and they were just fouling the water. I have tried to get them to eat more veggies like chopped spinach and crushed soybeans but they aren't having it.

My P. melanurus (syn) gets a mix of hikari, NLS, and Dainichi. Occasionally I feed frozen treats. He's a little piggy and eats so much he looks like he'll pop.

I feed New Life Spectrum only.

Just a FYI .... soybeans are a terrible food to feed a fish, any fish. Full of anti-nutritional matter & very difficult for any species of fish to assimilate.

Do you have any material you could refer me to in regards to this or is that just anecdotal? I always read about people feeding frozen peas to their fish, I tried soybeans because they are high in protein. I just recently started feeding them and have not noticed any ill effects. Are you against frozen peas as well?
