What Are You Guys Feeding Eclipse Cats?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We always have the room light on. One of the Suns is about 3-4", the other is about 5". The albino is also about 5". But he's crazy. Always out and slamming the top of the tank.

The layout is ok.

If you always have the room light on, then they (almost) never come out and that alone can easily be the source of stress. They need dark, night time to function normally. I spoke of a distant lighting to check if they are out and about, just enough to see them as shadows swimming around.

The albino slamming the tank top does not sound normal. It may be trying to get out.

What are your water parameters and how are they measured?

During the day the room light is on. It's our bedroom and night time is dark. He swims around a ton. We don't have a test kit right now. We ran out of strips and I'm waiting for one of the stores around us to get a test kit. I do water changes in it every week. Maybe even twice a week.

So what you are saying is that you are sure the sun cats do not come out even at night. Perhaps this will change but atm I think it is not normal.

Strips are not recommended. A liquid test kit is what is recommended such as this http://www.petsolutions.com/C/Aquarium-Test-Kits/I/Api-Freshwater-Master-Kit.aspx

Until we know that the water parameters are adequate, we cannot rule out that it is the water that affects/stresses your fish, no matter how many and how big WC's you do.

If I have time tomorrow I will take a sample to have it tested. That is the kit that is currently out of stock that I'm waiting on. I just fed them after I turned out the lights and I was watching them and the bigger one poked out but went back in. Sorry. I'm sort of new to the hobby. I've only had tropicals before. But I will get my water tested soon. I just swept up uneaten food and poop. The filter was flowing water beside the input tube so it must be getting messy. Are they big waste producers? That's one thing I hated about having mollies. I have a filter rated for 30g on their 20g tank so hopefully that helps a little. I was thinking of putting my powerhead in for more flow. Should I do that?

I also think I am putting in too much food, I read that they were big eaters but theres always leftover food and they have grown none. I put in about 4 2" pieces of bloodworms that are about 1/2" thick..
