What are you into?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For a year now,i've been into CA cichlids and flowerhorns.Kept 3 flowerhorns, convicts, midas, vieja synpilum and a few others, for a few weeks now i've been looking into snakeheads particularly -channa aurantimaculata(yes they are legal in my country).I thought it was just a phase and i'll move on ,a few moments ago i realized i wasn't into flowerhorns anymore,i don't feel like going into the hybrid cichlids forum now.I feel bad leaving all of this behind, what are your thoughts?have you ever transitioned from keeping a certain types of fish to another?
can i have your flowerhorns :naughty::ROFL:just gettting into them. Have any advice?

Thanks all! It felt wrong to leave keeping cichlids but after reading all the posts i've decided to go with what i love and want to keep rather than be influenced by what everyone else keeps.:)

rn im feeling pretty overwhelmed. There are so many fish that I want to keep! There are a lot of factors limiting me including being young, money and space. And of course my ability and the time it takes to care for them. For whatever reason i'm never really satisfied with my tanks and always want to buy more "stuff" for them even when I obviously don't need it. But for the past few years when i've gone to sleepaway for a month and not bought anything that urge goes away completely for a while. That same urge also goes away when I don't spend my pocket money for a while. Kinda weird.

I’m a fan of South American cichlids. Always wanted to try reefs but I don’t have the time/money at the moment. Due to only a few years left in high school, I’m not a allowed to setup any big tanks, so I started more smaller, planted tanks. I enjoy the look of a more natural tanks. In the future, would love to try arowanas, rays, datnoids, and larger cichlids.

Couldn't be more relatable.

There is absolutely nothing to feel guilty about just because your taste in fish change. In fact imo I think you've more to feel guilty about if you DIDN'T ever have the urge to try other species and the different challenges they'd bring. You'd be denying yourself the potential to grow in the hobby and experience other aspects.

Saying that though, from a personal point of view, although I wouldn't feel guilty about a change of direction in fish choice, I WOULD feel guilty if i just got rid of my "old" fish to just anybody to make room for my new fish. They'd have to go to a good home and if I couldn't find one, then i'd keep them and the new project would go on the back burner.

I think you will look after the fish better if you are more interested in them so should follow your tastes. I think most of us have got bored with a setup and neglected it a bit (or a lot.....) because interest has died off.

Its sort of like music, sometimes you will be listening to Sinatra, a week later you will be blasting punk rock, vibes and tastes change. Just make sure you do the best by your existing fish if you get rid of them as others have already advised.

Iam currently looking for good homes for my convicts ,midas,a flowerhorn and some other cichlids because i know i can't provide the best for them with other ongoing projects. These posts inspire me to keep what i love uninfluenced by the other's opnions. Thanks for making me understand it wasn't a bad thing to move on :) Milingu Milingu jjohnwm jjohnwm Ogertron3000 Ogertron3000 tlindsey tlindsey
