What are your favorite fishkeeping books?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm going to be extremely boring and think outside the box on this one. I can safely say I don't own one single book on fish. I used to do way back in my fish keeping days of old.

Nowadays the only fish keeping books I need are these two little beauties pictured below. The black one has been with me since I returned to the hobby in 2015. It is full of all sorts of snippets of info regarding my tanks. The other one is a diary full of water change days and other important dates should my old fading memory fail me, lol.

Here are my two favorites:

1. The Manual of Fish Health by Adrian Exell, Chris Andrews, and Neville Carrington. A lot of information on almost every subject of fish health, individual diseases and various treatment options, as well as water chemistry and biology.View attachment 1453269

2. The Aquarium Owners Manual by Gina Sandford. This book contains a good amount of information on the history of fishkeeping, guides to setting up aquariums, what to look for when buying fish, breeding fish and raising fry and treating common aquarium ailments. It also contains profiles of some of the most commonly available fish in fresh, salt and brackish water as well as coldwater freshwater and marine fish and invertebrates.View attachment 1453270

Both of these books are fairly old at this point but i still find that they have a lot of useful information and are just fun to break out and read every once in a while. What are some of your favorite books on the hobby?
I’m into rifties, so I really like this book, even if all the names are very out dated

I would have chosen something if I could get my hands on one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have a few 'generic' fishkeeping books but I'd like to own Bleher's Biotopes someday. The Bichir book is also cool but they don't ship to me.

It depends what for -
For 'all-fish' species profiles and info, the Baensch & Riehl (and viceversa) volumes for freshwater and the Baensch & Fischer Atlas for same top my list. For specific groups or topics such as health, there are other excellent titles, some mentioned here.
