what are your most wanted fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We'd like to make everyone's dreams come true! (one of the reasons we started our new venture). Some of the "Most Wanted" fish people have listed are attainable, some are distant possibilities. We may have a lead on Paretroplus lamena "blue lips" ( not in the USA) - the really rare fish take time to locate, especially breeding pairs. A. margaritiferus is probably gone forever! The same for many Madagascan species, we are fortunate to have seen Ptychochromis insolitus at the Denver Zoo. Asfraci, Tuba, Ornatum, and Coeruleous could be on the scene sooner than you think. Some exotic pikes might be had later this year, I 'd love to find Xingu III, 'white' cincta, and some nice fat Tigrina. Affordable U. "panda" should be back in May, also some Panamensis.

Keep those "Most Wanted" fish coming in, it's very interesting to hear what the serious Cichlid Keepers are looking for!

Xingu III are awesome and something I would be interested in that I didn't even think of. Please keep me informed about any imports of madagascars. There are several in Europe that are not over here. It would be great to get a few of those guys in the US for the first time.

I feel you on that one friend. I also want another Umbee and a true festae.

I know I sound like a broken record, but I'm till holding out for Heroina isonycterina. Some people in Europe have wilds and F1s now, thanks to a guy who went fishing for his own a couple years ago. Anyone wanna fly to South America with me? :nilly:

Oooooooo..... Good one!

The last time I saw these for sale was at an ACA Convention. I watched them for a couple of days, and then decided to go get a few only to find out that a guy had bought ALL of them (something like two dozen).

GRRRRRRRR!

That fish is what Don Conkel listed in his 1993 book as A. margaritiferus. According to him, he lost them all in a freeze in 1989 (they were in an outdoor pond on his farm in Florida). The validity of the ID was never proven.

Interesting reading here.

Sorry for the derail OP. Now get those tigrina! You'll have a nice market for them here on MFK!

That is a shame about the astatheros. Those are some beautiful fish, especially the Rhytisma and Alfari. I'd put them on my most wanted list and tonight was the first time I'd seen pictures of them. Thanks for the link.

Other than that, I would say a good, or colorful, Red Texas. I know they're hybrids, but they've always held an appeal for me. My Carpinti is one of my favorite fish.

Someone is Sacramento had two breeding pairs of spinies about 2.5 years ago....

Sold them - basically gave them away - to some random guy from Craigslist when we moved cross country. No one wanted to buy either of the pairs for $15... Those and the sajica pairs were some of the last fish I had to clear out... Now - the holy grail...

If it's any consolation, they're much less exciting than they might seem :)
