As you can probably tell by my account name, I love hybrids. I mean most of them. I love my BP, and I like other hybrids like flowerhorns and red texas. Some of the more random ones like convict x texas or jaguar hybrids come out looking quite interesting. Some however don't look too good... like flowerhorns crossed with BP's. Some look like perfect mixes, just a BP body shape with flowerhorn coloring. Others... yeah.
I was thinking of creating my first hybrid... Nothing weird or anything like a midas and a jag, just a marbled honduran red point and a t-bar/sajica. My intention is just to create a fish with a body shape similar to the t-bar's, and having the white marbled pattern of the hrp, mixed in with the rainbow colors of the t-bar. I could call em rainbow convicts... In doing some research on how the marbled gene would be passed down, with the dominant wild colored gene of the t-bar mixing with the co-dominant marbled gene, about half the fry would be marbled hybrids. I only want to keep the best looking of the fry as a pet... the rest I'll sell or give away. Not going to intentionally kill any (some will die of natural causes) or feed them to my other fish.
Anyway I'm just making this thread to see other people's thoughts on hybrids.
I know some people shun and look down upon people how create hybrids... but I like to think (this goes for all things) 'one can like whatever they want, but it is up to you to agree or disagree with their thoughts.'
me, I like my hybrids. It's up to you to agree or disagree with that.
some people take hating hybrids to intense levels, saying to kill them as eggs or only use them as feeders...
