What are your thoughts...?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't like overstocking, it may be fine for "now", but is detrimental to the health of the fish long term. I think of it this way, how is it in prison? It is overstocked, everything goes fine for a while, then all of a sudden, RIOT and the fish die, usually the new fish. If each inmate has enough room to strech out, fewer fights happen. They still happen, but there are fewer of them. Stress is a lot lower for everyone, including the Guard/s(aquarist)

I think overstocking is ok as long as your filtration is up to the job and that your fish still have plenty of room to swim around and all have a chance to feed. People often lecture me saying 'your tanks too small for your fish' etc. But its my tank and i know they can all swim feed and that the filtration can do its job because i watch and feed them everyday. Do they? No they don't.

Carl.

carl - your stock and tank list actually look fine to me :)

whats your filtration?

I don’t like over stocked ponds and tanks I like to have things over filtered but I also like to give my fish some swimming room and some quality of life. At the end of the day what’s the difference in putting your 2 foot Arrow in a 3 foot tank than have a hugely over stocked tank same swimming room just more stress for the fish.

yes i like to overstock my cichlid community tank it spreads out the aggresion and i love to watch the different species interact.

If there is no agression,
if the water quality is perfect,
if the filtration is GREAT,
AND if you are flexible enough to upgrade when it really becomes neccessary...
then:
GO FOR IT!

yep, if the whater is clean and the fish get along.... of course:D
