we after moving my fish around thinking it was the best setup. puting my dinosaur eel(Senegal bircher) with my needle nose fish and big pleco. everything looked ok. thinking the only problem would be the needle fish going after it but that wasn't the case. This was last night. this morning my wife looked in and the big pleco and birch were swiming the tank and needle wasn't going much but stay on top. Now i just checked my tank and the birch is missing. pulled everything up and no birch. then went for the filer. poop found small peices of the birch in there. so my next question would be what ate the birch? looks like the pleco did from everything i've seen. But i never knew big pleco would eat other fish. and if it did how come so much of a mess. If it was the needle wouldn't there be some sign of the needle eating. (like a bump or something on him) please give me some insite

There's a possibility that the Bichir was sick and the Pleco wore it down. Plecos if underfed will go after slime coats of fish. Some Plecos can be predatory, like the Vampire Pleco. Saw mine go after a few Guppies once.

weird because it's just a common pleco. as for it being sick well it could have been. haven't seen it in weeks eating much. but is it wise to trade the pleco in for a smaller one? or just leave the tank for the pleco and needle fish?

If it's a Common, then you don't have to worry about it being "predatory," but just make sure you're giving it some vegetables and algae wafers and you can probably get yourself another Bichir;)

problem is it's a big pleco. maybe 7" or 8"(just a guess). i don't want to keep geting fish and having him eat them. maybe i should just move the pleco to the bottom tank with my jack dempster and blood parrot fish. or do you think i should just try to trade him in for something else to clean the tank if i can. on a side not do you know much about needle nose fish. i have one that hasn't eaten since we got it. it's about 5" and it's been about 1 week. trying alot of different things but nothing

weird. we had one before and they both died from unknown death. they were fine. but oh well. should i trade the pleco in or do you think it's safe to put other fish with it. been seeing it go after my jack dempster and blood parrot abit. weird thing is only when it's out and about. if it's hiding in a cave the parrot used to stay wth it and nothing. but it's in another tank so let me know. he's with a needle fish now and don't want the pleco killing that also

Plecos can be bullys, but I never seen mine EAT another fish...they'll eat meat, and like above, if they can corner a fish they'll take the slime coat off and that will leave them vunerable to secondary infections and such...

wish i would have known that before i threw my birch in with the pleco. as for the needle fish. anything i can do or try to get it to eat? and for the pleco trade him in for a smaller one or something else or just keep it?
