What becomes of Monster Catfish afterwards?

I think its because people dont feed them as much as they would eat in the wild. Its always a certain amount so many times a day. When in the wild they dont stop eating. So taking the size of the tank out of the equation it has to be the feeding regimine. Because ive seen some old RTCs at zoos and there in some big tanks but never seen one over 5 feet.

^ even if you give them an endless supply of food it's not the same as what they would get in the wild. you've gotta take into account everything they eat...and what that thing ate....and what the thing they ate, ate all the way down to the smallest organism.

I think capybaras are the key to size. I can just see them swimming along, minding thier own business, and "thwooooop", they get sucked under and into the stomach of a small-eyed, happy go-lucky fat leviathan.

The thing is, I would love to be able to house a titanic 10 foot long amazonian catfish. I'd feed it chickens and capybaras.

i take it you like the video of the arowana eating a duckling?

space to exercise, varied diet, water quality... these are the big things I think most captive cats don't get. I honestly don't see many large cats under-fed.. if anything they seemed over-fed. which suggest more improper feeding then lack of feeding.

theoretically they should get larger in captivity then in the wild. But most get smaller. The other question to ask I guess is how old are these "monster cats" in the wild. There is alot about fish we don't know, even these large cat species which have been in the trade for years.

Be interesting to see scientific research done on one of these large cats and have it tagged as they do sharks and study where it goes and how active they really are. ect.
