What bigger SA/CA isn't going to tear this tank up as it grows?

Just got the tank planted finally and was planning on getting EBJD's, at least a handful of em. Think they'd do ok in this tank or would they have a dinner menu? It's mostly java fern and anubias.. If EBJD's fall through and aren't available, what would be a good fish to move to? Gonna have 8 striata loaches in there when I take the danios out.

Pretty much all sa/ca cichlids are going to eat your plants and dig them up.

even anubias and java ferns? they are supposed to be unmolested by fish because of their tastes I thought? nothing is in the substrate .. the rhizomes are all tied down to rock or wood.
 
my sevs will even pick at java fern. how big is the tank

if nothing is rooted maybe geos. depending on tanks size
 
I can only really think of medium ones like festivum, keyholes, stuff like that. Maybe a chocolate cichlid? Mine completely ignores anything veg-based, and he doesn't dig.
 
Carpinte like their greens so do not go with them, they will destroy the beautiful setup you have there.. As stated above, not many cichlids are plant compatible. GT, JD, or any medium sized cichlid like that is likely to want to move your aquascape to how they like it which is why the plants are likely not to work, this is the major reason why plants dont work with cichlids like this.
 
Yep. They tend to either eat the plants or want to clear them out of their territories, or just their persistent digging will spell doom for the plants.

Oh forgot about pikes though...many pikes like planted tanks and will leave plants alone. Maybe not what you had in mind though...
 
If none of that is in the substrate any eartheater will work. I keep a planted geo tank and they don't uproot any swords (the roots get good and deep) or ever nip at any other plants. I can't keep Anubias down in the sand but if it's all anchored to something you'll be fine. I've seen a similarly sized/planted tank full of firemouths and it worked out great for the guy.

That said, if you go with eartheaters I'd expose a bit more earth. That setup looks very nice but they would want more sand to sift. All my plants are clustered in one place to allow for tons of open territory.
