whats the difference between the regualr ehphistrate and the pro? They looks the same ,,, and they look to have the same amount of surface area?

EHFI SUBSTRAT
  • Surface area 450 sqm/litre (20,000 sqf/gal)
  • Optimal sites for bacteria colonisation.
  • Longer lasting
  • Less dust
EHFI SUBSTRAT PRO
  • Surface area 450 sqm/litre (20,000 sqf/gal)
  • Optimal sites for bacteria
  • Longer lasting

Original Substrat consists of irregularly shaped and sized particles. Substrat Pro consists of spherical particles with a fairly uniform size distribution. Due to the way that spherical particles pack (vs. irregular), more surface area should be actually available for contact with water. Regular Substrat is a good product but the spherical shape gives Pro the edge.

The only difference between the Pro and regular EHFISUBSTRAT, apart from the price, is that the Pro always for better circulation (more O2 to bacteria) given it's shape.

Again i will repeat myself.

The most surface area you are going to find is going to be the ceramics, pore filled bio-media. These however are pretty expensive...but for a canister they are the way to go. pretty much any of them will yield the same results, so look for the cheapest you can find of these.

Any long term efect to dollar store scrubbies ? do they deterioriate over time ?
