What can anyone tell me about geophagus Daemon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are beautiful Geo I always want but afraid to keep. They are black water fish that requires soft water and peat moss filtration to do well. They are vulnerable to HITH in my medium hard water.

I have the soft water for them but not the peat moss filtration. I'm gonna try these 7 in my grow out tanks and see how they do. If they do well for me I may add a few of them to my display tank once I put some size on them.

As stated above, Satanoperca (not Geophagus) are black water cichlids. The tannins help the species ward off disease like HITH, and other bacterial infections because the tannins along with low pH(4ish)/soft water, create a hostile environment for bacteria. If you don't use peat, I would suggest tannin leaching wood.
I was unsuccessful with them, because I did not follow this regime.
