What can i do to make my pond look better?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i wouldnt put rocks, bricks, stones ect in the pond. its just headaches with all the crud thats going to build up between the rocks. what are the dimensions of the pond?

Okay, a few things:

  • If I were you, I would drain it and make the sides not quite so steep in order to be able to have rocks and gravel/sand over them to cover up the liner without having to worry about them falling over and/or ending up at the bottom. Having a more gradual slope will also be more ideal for the turtle since it will want to exit the pond sometimes.
  • Speaking of the turtle, put a fence around some of the grass surrounding the pond to prevent it from wandering off. Be sure to bury the fence at least a foot or two underground with the underground portion slanting towards the inside; this underground portion is meant to prevent the turtle from digging out.
  • As others have said, replace the bricks/concrete slabs with natural stone for a better look; you can use them to make a nice path to the pond. Also, add a large piece of driftwood that an adult turtle will be able to climb up on to use for basking purposes. Other than that, add a few plants with some being floaters, submerged, and a couple attached to the underwater part of the driftwood, and add a few fish that you will not mind disappearing should the turtle see them as food and you'll be golden.
alrighty I did some of what you said and some other members I'll have an update friday

actually I've done all river stones before and it was quite easy to clean imo. I would just go in the pond with a turkey baster on every stone and crack.

The update I kinda want to be a lil surprise Friday but I an picking up a wels catfish and maybe a channel with him and just have minnows in there with them. And whoever asked how big it was its a 9x7.5

Where did you manage to find a wels at? I know that you have some much bigger ponds, so I'm guessing that this is just for growing it out, right?

Yep its a grow out how long do think I have in that pond ? He's about 8inches now for $8 he's selling it to me for or I might go with the channel for $8. Still deciding. Unless I can find where I can buy some bass from or trout. Anyone know?

A wels for $8! Go with the wels if you can house it when it reaches its full size!

Am scared tho lol how long will this pond last for the wels? A year atleast I hope? I might make another pond for him. But can anyone answer my other questions? And if I moved the wels to my big pond he'd eat all my turtles !

I would:
- add some floating plants, hyacinths, etc
- add more round stones to the bottom so they cover entire pond
- redo water fall so its stone and more natural looking
- find away to cover up the liner
- add a UV if you can afford, could really help the clear-ness

Then stock with some natural looking fish, IMO I wouldn't do fancy goldfish, they just look awful in ponds, compared to koi. I think some schools of more natural fish would look nice like rainbows as you suggested. A big school of cardinal tetras in there would be mad sick :O But I don't think that would be an easy thing to do?

Based on my source, they grow pretty slow.
