What can I feed to newly hatched brine shrimp?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeast, huh? I guess I should try some of that. Just regular yeast; that won't harm the fish that eat the artemia nauplii, will it?

It won't hurt them in the short term but just like toxins trace amounts of everything your food ate ends up in you so the fish will ingest some inorganic yeast that certainly will not aid in digestion. I never feed any of the inorganic food to my brine shrimp, not only for the aforementioned reason, but also because the resultant brine shrimp aren't as nutritionally sound.

Powdered shrimp meal or finely mashed cooked egg yolk works.

If you want something easy I'd go with the egg yolk guppy reccomended. I'd forgotten about that method, as it's one I've never tried. It should keep the nutritional value up and promote quick growth but you'll have to be careful how much you feed or you will dirty the water real quick and crash your colony.

Thanks; how exactly would I prepared the egg yolks? Thanks.

Hardboil the egg, seperate out the yolk, mash a small portion between your finger and thumb and swirl into the container of naupuli, use sparingly as it is easy to overfeed

The use of the period key would enable people to understand what the hell you just typed.

fixed that for ya.

A nice "please use periods" would have worked fine.

As for brine shrimp, yeast will keep them alive just great, but like mentioned, it is not good for your fish's health, nor is it nutritious. It will also pollute your water after a few days.

I would recommend algae. Spirulina is great and is most commonly used when it comes to algae. Just get the powder (pretty cheap on eBay) or flake and pass it through a finely-woven cloth. You can just add the powder directly to the water if you want, but the cloth will give you better results. Personally, I use the powder because it is hard to find pure spirulina flake. Makes your brine shrimp nutritious, too.

Don't use chlorella; it's processed for human consumption and brine shrimp can't use the nutrients anymore.

You can also get this specially formulated brine shrimp food, but it's $10 for the food and shipping. I've tried it, and the plus side is that one feeding will last the brine shrimp for a long time. It just seems to hang around in there and they have something to eat for 2 weeks...

I've also seen this OSI brine shrimp food, which is in a small container and very cheap, but I can't find any places that don't charge you three times the price of the food for shipping. :irked:

GOD another old tread ok pple i got some of the info from this site and have brine growing doing well over a few thousand in side a 10 gallon. But reading this site i was wondering Brine Shimp are baby forms of adult shrimp right? I read that on a breeders website. PLEASE tell me they are bc im trying a project on shrimp to improve them with vitamins, I'm hopping to make the shrimp batter for the fish baby making them eat different types of foods like baby foods and so on. I read this is a good way to get the shimp to grow faster. Another thinkk was that Brine shrimp (if turn into adult shrimp) after the last melting withing 3-6 weeks it should start into a fully from mys. shrimp. Correct me please or email me at dustylane1989@hotmail.com
