HI guys,

I came down today to find my 2" crawfish eating my 3" shark cat... I was soooo pissed!!!!!

What can get that my crawfish won't be able to eat or kill?...

I already have a 3" freshwater barracuda, 6" Clown knife, 5" niddlefish, & 4" Poly.

Crawfish are predators that WILL kill/eat anything they can catch. A few fish friendly crays are dwarf crays. P. clarkii cannot be trusted with fish. Either they will kill the fish or fish large enough to keep with the crays will put the crays at risk during their molts.

Plecos? They are armoured, swim VERY fast, and suck on the glass high up where the cray can't reach.

i have seen plecos gutted by crawfish.

I have had 3 tanks now with both crays and cichlids all successful and all had one thing in common. Go LARGE, LARGE cichlids and LARGE amounts of hiding spots that the fish can't get into. My lobsters dont seem to be able to catch cichlids that are stocky and at least 2/3 the size of the cray. Plecos again need to be LARGE, My 8" Red claw will attack my 14" sailfin pleco if it is laying on some food, he cant harm it but I wouldnt want to put a pleco in that was any smaller than the cray and preferably much larger.

I also should note that when I say 2/3 the size of the cray, what I mean is 2/3 of his adult size not 2/3 the size you bought him at. Crays grow much faster than fish so keep that in mind.

IMO anything that doesnt meet at least these criteria WILL become a snack.

Having said all this nothing keeps a tank cleaner than a cray, I wouldnt keep large messy cichlids without one.

If you like your polypterus you should get him or the cray out of that tank.
