what can I put with my green sunfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You know in most places its illegal anyway to take wild fish from any body of water so it would not be wrong to return this fish into same pond becauseit belongs there anyway not in a 10 gallon tank.

Are you kidding me? By returning those fish to the lake/pond he could be introducing exotic parasite and diseases from being in contact with tropical fish. You really need to read the link I posted!!!!

More sun fish!

Seriously, plan on something in the 45-90 gallon range, I am currently using a $50 90g for my one sunfish. This female chased the male I had her with in a 45G - out of a gap next to a filter no bigger than the fish and it died. The funny thing is that I never really 'saw' any aggression between the 2, they sometimes even hung out together.

I have 2 baby channel cats the one green and some feeders in the 90... Thants all I need!

actually any sunfish is not a game fish so it is okay to keep them in a tank. them dang things are everywhere

No actually its not okay to take any fwild fish from a pond and at least in colorado in utah sunfish are gamefish so if you leave in either of these places you have broke the law.

It depends on where you live, so research is important before you decide to start keeping fish you catch yourself.

Here in PA, you can take lots of different fish home for your aquarium - minnows, darters, suckers, sunfish, catfish etc. Sunfish have no size limit, and can be considered bait fish. The only stipulation about taking sunfish is you cannot use a net, or minnow trap. They must be taken by hook and line.

OP - I'm not sure a pet store will take it. In PA, selling wild caught native fish without a permit is illegal and I doubt most pet store bother with such permits due to the low demand for native fish.
