Curious for suggestions as to what i can stock my tank with that my bichirs can snack on? I've read in the wild they like crustaceans, anyone here keep crawfish or crab with there bichir? Do they readily accept these as food? Any kind of schooling fish i can buy that they'll snack on?

are you talking about feeders?you could try silversides,
but other than snacks, if you want them to grow faster n healthy, why not giving them something like earthworms?it contains more protein for your bichirs. This is what I'm currently doing to mine, n I'm thinking of setting up my own little worms farms. Other than that, you could also try crickets, which is also high in protein,..
cheers

They will go bonkers for ghost shrimp. Be careful though, it's easy for them to over eat with ghost shrimp, ghost shrimp are kind of like crack for predatory fish.

ghost shrimp you say? How big do these ghost shrimp get? Would larger polys still consider them food?

Also theres a large pond in the hills above where i live and every year there's a massive tadpole bloom. My question regarding the tadpoles is, are they safe for polys to eat, will the polys eat them? Will polys eat the adult frogs? I figure it depends on if the frogs are toxic or not, but I live up here in Canada, not many things are considered toxic.

No not feeders...well not in the conventional sense. Like a type of small schooling fish that would be present in their native waters. Something that i can just re-stock when they snack on them. Bulk of their diet will still be earthworms pellets silversides and beef heart, but it would be nice to have something living in the tank, just in case one gets hungry, or for some reason I'm unable to feed them for a few days? I have the 6 polys in a planted driftwooded 180, might be nice for them to flex the predatory instincts every once and a while.

i agree sounds like a good idea, why dont u get like 20 danios, they are fast swimming and will be a challenge for your birchirs to catch, which would be cool to watch

Not from their native waters, but what about rosey reds? They are cheap & easy to replace and my endli loves them. On the other end of the spectrum, if you really want some african natives, there's always Congo tetras. They're stunning and fun to watch, but are certainly expensive feeders (coming from someone who lost a pair to my senegals).
