Similar thing happened to me this morning. Looked in the tank, dead senagal, 9" laying on the bottom. 3 others, nothing wrong with them. Water changes are always done with 5 times filtered water. 7 large silver dollars in the same tank, no problems, strange. There is 1 male senagal that I noticed was getting a bit amorous few days ago, could he have killed her?
 
sorry about your loss that was an awesome ornate ! my 10" ornate died very quickly and swelled up beforehand,i put it down to ingested gravel as i've heard this can cause problems, nowadays i use sand just in case but at the mo i don't have a poly, not for long hopefully
 
I had a P. Ornate marbled goby, P. senegalus ,Fire Eel I did a water change , mind you thses fish have been togeather for 7 years in the same tank I do water chages bi weekly 25% they were in a 265gal and 1 week I did a change they died 7hr later floating .they thrased around for20 minutes the fire eel died in the sand he was burrowed in . the water check out ph 7.2 ,gh 20 temp 80, plenty of o2 from a diffuser. but I thought there was a something in the water I took it to the lab at the univercity they said it had a high content of copper and lead . right after I did the water change I notice street workers on our block working they said if I had tasted the water I would have noticed the tast . but I HAVE FILTERS IN MY TAP IN THE KICHEN AND WE HAVE BRITA WATER IN OUR Frig. I went ciyy hall made a complant went to water department talk to them then to my council person the street club I belong to . 2yrs later I got a check from the city. $1000.00and a vary councerd later from my council person.
