what can you do to make your fish breed

Festaes are tricky because often the male kills the female, ask in the CA/SA forum, you will get more info there then here, goodluck!

Try putting a large clay pot or something they can spawn... they usually like flat or smooth surfaces.

Get the pair their own breeding tank..Keep it simple...........Keep it clean....BAsic decoration: CAve, deep sand, mild filtering...........Lots of food..........

i found that pregnant live barers like guppies or similar can set off a lot of other fish in breeding frenzies when they've been in my tank.. given the fish you're treying to breed tho you'd probably need a breeding net to sepperate the live barers.
just a thought but guppies are cheap and breed like rabbits, so its an easy option.

I have heard by increasing the temp to around 80 - 81 degrees helps is this true?

I bred other cichlids in the past but not the festae. I had a few pairs and it is challenging. When a pair of cichlid is in a large tank with hiding areas, it will allow them to not kill each other that easily. Festaes are known to have problem with bacterial infections. They get the mouth rot and boils if the PH is too low. Increase in temperature and frequent water changes usually helps. You have to get more info from the experts. Good Luck.
