Ok, this is my FH, and i am wondering what anyone can tell me about it. I have had it for about 2 1/2 years and it was about 2" long or so when i got it.
I honestly know nothing about its genetics or sex or what body type it would be labled or any other details, but am getting curious lol.
I also want to say that i keep my fh because i love the personality and the fact that i have raised him/her, i realize that it most likely is not what would be considered a "high quality" specimen and that doesnt hurt my feelings one bit, im just curious about it.
So anyway, any knowlege anyone can share about my fh is appreciated.
Here are a couple pics.

loving the dark coloration on it, nice fish!

Thank you all. I love the colors on him/her, i just wish i could get a pic that showed the colors better lol.
Can any of you give me any clue to the sex?

im going to say male because it hasnt layed eggs.

Will they lay eggs without a male present? May be a dumb question but this is the only fish i have ever kept solo so just wondering lol

Cool. well in that case i would say most likely male cuz in over 2 1/2 years no eggs lol.
I am planning on switching to sand for substrate a bag or 2 here and there as i have the cash, right now my FH is the only tank with gravel the rest are all sand. I was really looking forward to seeing how he would look with black sand to contrast his colors, but from what i am reading thats a no no if your lookin for bright colors in the FH so im kinda bummed about that but im thinkin white instead now.
I am wondering though, if i were to put a nice bright background on the back and use black sand, would the background offset the darkness of the black sand enough to not negatively affect his colors?

im curious to see the response.. ive read the black gravel thing as well and im unsure whether people are saying its bad for the fish or just will make the color less bright as with most other cichlids
