What can you tell me about this FH?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
old school red dragon..it looks good..havent seen one in sumtime..reminds me of my first fh..its a male without doubt..in this strain the slighty raised head shows dat its a male.

Awesome info everyone. thanks.

Anyone have any comments or advice on my substrate/background combination question? lol

Definitely go blue background. Not sure about the black gravel though. Dont know if a bright background will keep your fish from looking dull with dark substrate. You could always try but if it doesn't work out then the junk thing is you wasted money of the sand.

Exactly lol. at $15 a pop for 20# bags of the black sand i like, its gonna be a bit of money. Thats why im really hoping someone will have already tried it and can tell me before i spend the money (that money issue is a real B!@#$ lmao)
So as for the blue background im guessing that is the best color to stimulate their colors? I have heard either red blue or a planted background...im thinkin blue will be less of an eyesore than red and still stimulate the colors.

i agree with hot slime..go with the blue background..all my fh tanks hav it..its all in all the best background to stimulate colors.

Aready decided on the blue background for now. However i still need to know about whether the blue background will offset the black sand to keep from negatively effecting his colors.

Any change to the tank will temporarily affect his color due to stress so it will be hard for you to tell. Maybe buy a small bag and see how he likes it. I've found that my larger cichlids have a hard time adjusting to white pfs and their colors never quite pop. I've heard black is a no no for fh but since yours displays such dark coloration already its hard to say.
