How exactly does a canister get into a tank? IV heard of flow bars and what not or is it a simple tube that goes into the tank and one comes out?

This is really basic info. Go onto youtube and watch some videos. It will greatly help your understanding.

To make it extremely simple for you to understand:
Gravity pulls water into the cannister via a siphon powered by the motor. The motor pumps the water back into the tank via the output, this sucks more water into the cannister.

So. If your plus so happens to come out of the wall it will just empty the tank? Lol my kitten unplugs my tanks all the time due to my plugs being old.

Canisters should be well sealed as they be pressurized systems, so no, ought not to leak water if power out. Otherwise, if break seal then yes, water leak all everywhere.

Main thing must remember when use canister filter is: how you plan to clean?!?

OMG believe me please plan well how to clean or otherwise, if too hard to clean, you never do job! So add 2 x valves before canister filter, also more 2 x valves after canister filter, so can turn power off, shut all 4 x valves off, then disconnect between valves 1 & 2, also disconnect between valves 3 & 4. Now can take canister filter to backyard to clean while keeping water staying inside water pipes. This way, no spill water all everywhere + when reconnect all pipes, water flows again too easy to start, no need for siphoning water to prime all pipes, etc!

Second thing must remember when use canister filter is: add a prefilter even if just fit piece of foam over the filter pipe inlet, so this way you just take off foam when dirty and wash then replace, no need to turn off power so much to do big filter clean, so good bacteria stay alive + happy doing good job inside canister for much longer time!

Kuji out.

All the fluvals with the "aqua stop" system have adjustable flows. There's a clamp to lock it down and another above it to open the flow. But you don't want to turn down the flow anyways. It's better to divert strong currents than stifle the flow.

I used a 304 on a 29g and it did great! Actually it did great on a 55g for a few weeks while ordering the 405.

I think a 404/405/406 (same things except 406 is supposed to be 15% more efficient but who knows what that really means before marketing wrote it) would be great for a 40 gallon.

And that link was interesting. If you do buy that knock-off get yourself a nice fake Omega watch too! So you can time how long it takes to leak
