I have a 180 gallon tank with two overflows, I do not want a sump, I want to use canister filters. Two FX6s would be too expensive, and is overkill IMO. I need two canisters, what model do you think would be the best for a pair of canisters? I'm just planning on having one Jardini arowana in the tank. Ideally I'd like to go with Eheim canisters, since I've found them to be the most reliable.

I have had good experiences with cascade filters specifically cascade 1,000’s. If they aren’t your cup of tea then my eheim 2217 does a good job too. Still not your cup of tea? Boy you’re picky with your tea. I hear sunsun canisters are pretty good and you an get several of them for the same price of 2 fx6. Hopefully I’ve found the right cup of tea for you.

I've used SunSun/Aquatop canisters and I haven't found them to be all that reliable. I have an Eheim 2215 on one of my 40 gallon tanks, I like it, but I don't like how it doesn't have a built in priming system, but that is a non issue since I will be plumbing them into existing overflows.

It’s done pretty well for me but I’ll leave this for other people sice I’ve said my bit.

What were your issues with the SunSun? I just got a 704A (no uv) but haven't put it on any tank yet. I'm ordering a new ~300 gallon Aro tank in future, was thinking to put a couple on there, as I also don't really want to go down the sump road, despite how effective they are (anyway my tanks always have light bio-loads).

Let us know what you go with.

They were hard to clean, sometimes the pumps would stop, and the priming system stopped working on one of ones that I had. I still have to install the new glass braces on my 180 and finish putting the stand together before I can set it up, but hopefully I will be able to set it up soon.

I think SunSun has upped their game in several areas in last couple of years but yeah, still more chance of something going south compared to Eheim, Fluval etc., get what you pay for and all that, which your post reminded me, maybe I'd better get 1 Eheim to go alongside the SunSun 704a.
