What catfish is right for my setup/me?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds good, do you plan on ever upgrading? a GT plus 10 cats, albeit smaller ones sounds a little cramped. The larger ones in my LFS display tank are all over the place in a 250ish gallon tank

there is a very high chance for an upgrade. Both species will take a long time (2 years) before coming close to their max sizes.

As for bioload, it should be fine as I do large water changes and from what AQadvisor suggests the current stock for the 75g is 80% ish. In the past according to AQadvisor I have kept my 75g at 130% stock for years, never an issue.

Petricola will max out at 4" and being a 48" tank thats 12 times its body length which is plenty for swimming space. I keep the tank very open to allow for lots of swiming room.

Currently it looks completely empty when you walk by my 75g. People ask is there fish in there..

The petricola at the shop are almost all over 4". Super busy too
As long as the water is clean, go ahead :)

I know the feeling of 'empty' tanks. half of my fish are nocturnal in my 70 and only 2 actively move

Are you sure they are synonymous petricola? I can't find information online of them being larger. 3.5-4" is what I keep reading.

All fish are just young and small so for a while I will be very okay. I have the means to upgrade anytime if it becomes an issue. I thinking a 180g would be good next size to go to.

You might have gotten lucky but most usually, like in 90%-99% cases, people who think they got a petricola actually got a very close look-alike lucipinnis. The cheap price is also consistent with luci.
