Hi all, I was at my lfs earlier today & seen a catfish there it was actually there about a month or so ago but looked like someone had bit it quite good on its side and was recovering, since I've left the shop the catfish is driving me mad and I have this urge to save it ( it's fine where it is and looks very happy) but I still have the urge to own it, I'd say it's about 18" long and looks alot like the one in the pic I've attached but it's not a pic of the actual one. Any info would be great, stay safe all and take care in these mad times.

Looks like a clarias.....Chinese walking cat with a piebald color pattern.

Venomous sting, 3.3ft length and super aggressive , does that sound about right or should I keep researching..... I'm slightly losing that save it vibe ?

While,I'm not sure about their maximum potential size I understand that they are now a banned and prohibited species in the United States.

Yes I read that , I think they would also be banned here if they was capable of surviving our winters.

Clarias Batrachus
A very personable catfish which tend to grow fast and love food.
good escape artists so tight fitting lid necessary. Due to their eel like nature they are often kept in tanks smaller than they should be for an 18" cat ( although they are reported to grow bigger, I have never seen a bigger Batrachus) .
can tell the sex easily both by the size and by the ventral opening.
always found them to be friendly with anything too big to be considered food.
Easy to find catfish and probably no easier catfish exists that is easier to keep or less demanding (assuming you can keep it in water!)
