Sorry I'm located in the UK
Ah no biggie lol...I've wondered why a member's location didn't automatically show on the screen with all the other information.

I block mine. :)

Clarias Batrachus
A very personable catfish which tend to grow fast and love food.
good escape artists so tight fitting lid necessary. Due to their eel like nature they are often kept in tanks smaller than they should be for an 18" cat ( although they are reported to grow bigger, I have never seen a bigger Batrachus) .
can tell the sex easily both by the size and by the ventral opening.
always found them to be friendly with anything too big to be considered food.
Easy to find catfish and probably no easier catfish exists that is easier to keep or less demanding (assuming you can keep it in water!)

Yes when looking at it I got the impression it was quite old and fully grown so maybe any further growth would be a very slow process, the venomous sting is a little off putting to say the least though lol.

No venomous sting on clarias batrachus. I think someone has the wrong fish.

They do get bigger. Heres an old female i lost a year or so ago. 52cm with half its tail ripped off.

They might be venomous but they do have a spine. From wikipedia:
"This fish needs to be handled carefully when fishing it due to its hidden embedded sting or thorn-like defensive mechanism hidden behind its fins (including the middle ones before the tail fin, like the majority of all catfishes)."
From planet catfish:
"pectoral fins each with a serrated anterior bony spine"
Most smaller catfish do have spines that may be venomous. The effects, however, are mostly negligible. It's the puncture that counts and the venom, even if clarias batrachus does have it, causes only a mild discomfort. You may get pricked and may get an infection, if I were you that's what I would watch out for.
