A buddy of mine had a pair of pearls that gave birth. It was a single pup and it was born with a tail that's docked. I was wondering if the case is maybe from being inbreed? The reason I asked is that the pair he got was from two different source so I was curious to hear any thoughts.

Young parents, environment stress (high temps/low temps, pH swings), nurishment during pregnancy and over all health of the mother while pregnant are all factors we've linked to pup deformation.

Yeah, its a fairly young pair and I believe it was the first litter. Its a nice pup but just the tail that an eye sore.

If it's only a bend in the tail, it could be as simple as positioning of the pup while it was developing. I've seen pups get twisted/bent tails from getting the barb stuck in the wall of the uterus.
